Many
people have a basic understanding of
Estate Planning and what it entails, but eventually questions
arise that need specific attention. Many times people make decisions
based on preliminary understanding of
Estate Planning and key terms and definitions that explain
general concepts of Estates, Wills, Probate, etc., without having
all the pieces to the puzzle. Effective Estate Planning takes
knowledge and experience. It can be much more complicated than
creating a will and designating power of attorney. This site is
designed to help give you a better understanding of Estate Planning,
including definitions and scenarios regarding different Estate
Planning situations, and to direct you to
lawyers who will be able to help you plan your estate when
you are ready.
Myth: Average people do not have estates and therefore
do not really need to plan for them!
Reality:
Even if you do not have millions of dollars, you do have an estate.
Estate Planning is a way for you to protect your family and loved
ones. Proper Estate Planning gives you the ability to leave your
loved ones the items you wish them to receive after you are gone,
in the way you want them given, at the time you want them given.
A large part of Estate Planning is the ability to save every single
tax dollar, legal fee, and / or court fee possible. Estate Planning
also helps to keep you in control of your own affairs. This is
why an Estate
Planning Attorney is extremely helpful.
Myth:
People in perfect health do not need to plan for the possibility
of disability.
Reality:
An effective Estate Planning concept always involves plans for
the unexpected, especially in regard to disability. It allows
you to plan for your disability and direct the distribution of
your property in the event you do become disabled.
Myth:
I will never need an
Estate Planning attorney.
Reality:
It is true; some people do not need an Estate Planning Attorney.
Some people are able to plan their own estates effectively. Most
however, realize after some time that they want to ensure that
their families will be taken care of after they are gone, and
do not want to take any chances or make any costly mistakes. Unfortunately,
many people never realize their estates are not in order, and
their family's find out the hard way. The biggest problem is that
some people just fail to plan their estate properly.
